Let's Play Guardians of the Galaxy - Part 01
Hi, humans, bots, whatever other creatures who may be reading. My name is Nevets and today I’m going to begin a blind playthough of the 2017 Telltale video game, Guardians of the Galaxy. I’ve seen the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films (although I don’t remember them super well) and I’ve not read any of the comics, so this blind let’s play may be even more blind than usual. But anywho. We start off today with Episode 1: Tangled Up in Blue. We meet our cocky hero, Peter (aka., Star-Lord), our ragtag gang of miscreants, Groot, Drax the Destroyer, and the lovely-ish Gamora. Our adventure begins when a distressed Nova Corp ring us in dire need of the real heroes of the galaxy (I’m talking about us). After a little wheeling and dealing, we agree to the job and head out to see what all the hubbub’s about. It’s not pretty. There’s bodies everywhere, Mr. Ecko’s brother may or may not have crash landed somewhere, there’s the Fifth Element set, the obligatory crack, Batman detective thingy’s, and a hefty dose of ELO and Buzzcocks. So far, so good. Click here to watch on YouTube.

Today on Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we start off with a bang as we go head-to-head with Thanos in an epic battle that ends in a game changing surprise. We get a cool cup/gauntlet/eternity forge thingy (whatever) and use it to get hammered while jamming out to Hall and Oates. We’re racially discriminated against, we have a heart to heart with Gamora, we pass out, Groot ruins a bathroom, Drax has lost his life’s muse, we have a hefty bar tab, and we need to make a difficult decision involving Thanos, the Nova Corp, and The Collector. We read a novella of character bios, check out some amusing text messages, and I make a decision that I’m really hoping is smart. We’ll find out the answer to that last bit on our next episode of this let’s play of Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Click here to watch on YouTube.

Today on Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we finally get a glimpse into what this eternity forge has up its magical sleeve (it’s weird... like... real weird).  I share my predictions, we head off to Knowhere to make an exchange with the Nova Corps, we meet our biggest fan and let him touch whatever he wants, then things take a disastrous turn when a Hala girl turns up to nick our new toy. Battle ensues, we’re robbed, we make a choice between Drax and Gamora, head out to a Kree territory, peruse intergalactic Facebook, and then things go very, very badly before we finish of episode one of Telltales Guardians of the Galaxy. Today on Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we begin Episode 02: Under Pressure. We start out how we left off with the inevitable final syllable of a dirty word. I get overly amused and have my face broken for my trouble. The action proceeds with a great escape powered by heroic strategy and the nifty tunes of King Harvest. We visit an old friend and father figure, we flash to the past to check out constellations with our dear ol’ mom, we make a probably-emotionally-misguided promise to Rocket, we then spend literally the entire rest of today’s gameplay walking around the ship, chatting with our shipmates, and reading character bio updates and text messages. Today on Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Lord and rocket head out to Halfworld and uncover (and relive) Rockets secret past. We meet the cute and lovable Lyla. Things get just as sad as you’d expect. Afterwards, we head back to the ship, read some bio updates, and go hunt down Nebula. We end our episode as we leave to find Me at the temple. Today on Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Lord, Drax, and Groot head back to the temple to search for... me? I dunno. It’s a real Uncharted-esque puzzlefest which ultimately leads us to breaking a code that may lead our way to finding out what our future with the Eternity Forge holds. Back on the ship, things go haywire as the Kree break in and attack us. But with a little skill, a lotta luck, and the music of Sparks, we teach them that this town ain’t big enough for the both of us. Thanks to our visit to the temple (and Nebulas translator) we next know to head off to Emnios where we may or may not find our mother. Cue end-of-episode cliffhanger. Click here to watch on YouTube.

Today on Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we begin Episode 03: More Than A Feeling. I should point out, there may be a handful of small audio issues with this video. Somehow I managed to erase (or not record?) the first 19 or so minutes of my gameplay with the PS4’s built-in recording software (which is how I usually record). Luckily, however, I still had my commentary and I had back up video recorded by my Avermedia game capture device. For some reason, though, the game capture didn’t record the games audio. So I was stuck with the video of my gameplay, my commentary, but no audio from the game itself for the first 19 minutes. To fix this, I *ahem* borrowed audio from various other sources and tried to place them where they belonged. It was a tedious job and I don’t recommend it. However, I got most of it all lined out aside from a couple of blank spots here and there. Because I’m using my game capture video, my trophies will also be visible for once (for the first 19 minutes at least).

But anyway. Back to the story. We start by taking a look back at an incident in Star-Lords childhood in which he uses his words instead of his fists. Our mom, on the other hand, doesn’t. And it’s awesome. Next up, we take a trip down Gamora’s memory lane where we witness her and Nebulas somewhat uhm... unorthodox sibling relationship. Star-Lord and Gamora have a slapfight, we encounter an antenna woman who is definitely not our mother, and we’re tasked with brightening up the moods of the Guardians. Today on Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we travel back to view Gamora and Nebulas disturbing history together... this time from Nebula’s POV. Back on the ship, we read some updates on our text messages and character bios. Then our uber empathetic new friend, Mantis, gets contact-sad and we try to perk her up with a lighthearted montage where we sooth our crew members while listening to Shambala... or Jambala... or Jambajuice... or whatever the hell that Three Dog Night song is called. Anyway, it’s awesome. Next we head to a place called Drobin where we enter into yet another hidden temple. Our goal is to destroy the Eternity Forge but things don’t go quite as planned with Hala and her Kree troops pop up again. Click here to watch on YouTube.

Today on Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we begin the fourth and penultimate episode, entitled Who Needs You. Right off the bat we’re tossed into an intense shootout with the Kree and a powerfully crispy Hala. We fall down a hole during another great opening credits scene featuring the song “Put a Little Love In Your Heart” by Jackie DeShannon. Flashback to our childhood where Star-Lord and his mother find themselves in a perilous situation on the car ride to a camping trip. Back in the present, grownup Star-Lord and the gang find themselves trapped in a cave with deadly glowing worm things, exploding crystals, and Bowie. Rocket’s as grumpy as usual and decides to split from the group. Fearing for his safety, we choose to follow him. We blow stuff up, we DEFINITELY didn’t fart, and we find that the rest of our gang has gotten themselves in a sticky situation. While trying to unstick them, we find ourselves flashbacked in the memory of Drax where he is training his adorable daughter on the set of Horizon Zero Dawn. Don’t tell us we can’t hold on forever. Let's Play Guardians of the Galaxy - Part 10
Today on Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we snap out of Drax’s emotional reverie and into a terrifying battle with a buncha glowing tremors. Too many to fight, we opt to amscray. After finding our ship with surprising ease, we find ourselves locked into the belly of the beast in the most literal way possible. If this weren’t bad enough, tragedy occurs with one of the Guardians and I’ve no idea how I could have prevented it. We’ll have to cry later, however, because for now we need to find a way prevent ourselves from becoming worm food as well. Or at least find a way to become worm poo instead. In the process, we’re forced with the difficult choice of having to throw out all the precious possessions which define us. Click here to watch on YouTube.

Today on Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we’re defecated into a terrifying chase with a gigantic hungry worm. Queen blares from our headphones, baby worms break into our ship, and we end our fourth episode on the most tragic note possible as we lose yet another member of our beloved Guardians. Today on Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we begin our fifth and final episode, Don’t Stop Believin’. Things are rough for the Guardians after Drax’s death, are tape deck in the bowels of a giant worm, and the Guardians all split up. Oh, and Hala his supercharged and on the hunt for us. It’s the pits, man. With a little help from Groots memory of the Guardians formation, however, we rebuild our faith in ourselves and facial hair and set out to become the heroes we always knew we were. Now we just need to hunt down our missing teammates. To do this, Mantis Psychonauts’s us into the depths of our subconscious in order to build a “bridge of feelings” that will lead us to uh... ya know, I don’t really get it either. But we do it. And a bounty of joyful surprises are our reward. Click here to watch on YouTube.

Let's Play Guardians of the Galaxy - Part 13
Today on Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the Guardians are all finally reunited to partake in what may be our most magnificent battle yet with a worthy foe of our own creation (you know... Hala). We put the moves on Gamora, we apologize to people, people apologize to us, we stroke our worm and bolster spirits — it’s a regular love fest. Our primary goal, however, is to come up with a way to defeat the Kree. To do this, we brainstorm with rocket, come up with a plan, and begin assigning roles to each of our new arch nemesis. After a masterful speech, we set sail to our destination.

(NOTE: You may notice a quick second-or-two cut during a conversation between Groot and Rocket. This was done because I stupidly forgot to edit out a title sequence while putting this together the video together. I’d already deleted the original files so my only options were to either leave it in or snip that couple of seconds out. I chose the latter. Sorry!) Click here to watch on YouTube.

Nevets Plays Guardians of the Galaxy - Part 14
Let's Play Guardians of the Galaxy - Part 14
Today we finish season one of Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy. We start off with all our crew in their rightful positions while we proceed to put our plan in motion. Groot’s on helmet duty, Drax’s our distraction, Rocket’s our hacker, Gamora’s our hacker protector, and Star-Lord is the bomb planter. Things go smooth as butter for the most part. Then you know who shows up, of course.

I won’t spoil anything other than that, but I just want to say that I really enjoyed this game. Sure, sure, it was light on gameplay and our choices didn’t matter too much and yada yada, but that’s fine by me. With cool and likable characters, clever and funny dialogue, and a buttload of awesome music that I couldn’t stop singing along with, I found this more than a pleasurable enough experience to warrant my purchase. So, yeah. Totally worth it.

Oh, and I had fun recording it as well!

Until next time. Click here to watch on YouTube.
